Overall RatingNo Ratings

Credit rating bureau has been named in a lawsuit in a California federal court. Experian, which is one of the big three credit rating agencies along with Equifax and TransUnion, is one of the main agencies which provide data for determining a persons’ credit score. The complaint is that Experian defrauded customers, and the suit may become class action. Resource for this article – Credit bureau Experian accused of fraud in California lawsuit by MoneyBlogNewz.

Argument about information received on free credit report websites

Due to defrauding, plaintiffs’ in California filed a lawsuit. The credit agency Experian is on the other end of it. MSNBC states that the claim is that Experian gives misleading information to other sites where credit score copies are sold. When going through FreeCreditScore.com and FreeCreditReport.com, the suit states Experian purposefully gives the wrong score. The sites, which charge a $14.95 per month fee to users so they can monitor their credit report activity, provide the Experian PLUS score. The score is different when lenders are looking at it for a personal loan though which is why plaintiffs want a class action lawsuit.

Lenders look at FICO scores

When looking at a person’s credit rating, loan companies don’t look at the score. They don’t look at the score the bureau gives anyway. The FICO score, or the score Fair Isaac and Company came up with, is the one loan providers look at. Data about an individual is used to determine the Fair Isaac score. This is calculated with data about a person. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion all produce credit scores with the FICO formula, and those scores are reported to loan companies. The fraud suit is all because of the PLUS score. This score is not used by lenders that give out installment loans or employers. Since the information being sold was worthless, the suit states customers were misled by Experian. Experian had to be compelled by threat of a Federal Trade Commission suit to advertise the link to the government site where customers can request the one free report from each bureau that individuals are allowed by law.

Needs by states

Labor rights supports have never been enthralled with the idea of employers checking the credit scores of potential new hires. There are also 49 bills being reviewed in 25 states to make it extremely hard for employers to do that also showing how man the rest of the United States is also. Many supports of civil rights believe that employers do not have the right to review credit scores even though companies say that it helps them determine if an employee is going to be a problem.
