Is one of the sexes more creditworthy than the other? If you are a married woman or are planning a marriage soon then here are some things you need to know. Is there a secret of credit for married women?
1. According to the law, lenders are not allowed to consider gender when offering credit. But it is a statistical fact theat men earn more than women and their is a strong correlation between credit and income. Single females are then going to be able to get less credit than men and so the need to get wise to improving their own credit score. This will prove useful at many points in life if you need to repair your credit score.
2. All the credit you have is actually your husband’s (if you are married with joint accounts). Amazing but true and many women don’t realise this until they divorce. So women should try to build their own credit. If the man goes bankrupt in the future or has other problems, you will have your own credit. And you do not wind up with no credit if the worst comes to the worst and you get divorced.
3. If you are married to a man with very good credit you can use this to boost your own. Create some personal accounts and ditch the joint ones later if you like.
4. If you are single and have excellent credit think again before adding your new partner to your accounts. It will ruin your credit if he has financial trouble. Woman have much more to lose then gain in the credit world. Keep some seperate accounts (However you won’t be able to avoid a joint mortgage).
5. Lenders love the fact that most people are ignorant of this situation and they love couples you join seperate accounts. Imagine there are 100 couples. Together they must have about 200 accounts. When they join them all together the number of accounts halves and so does the bank’s liability. And not only that, but if only one partner gets into financial trouble the bank can chase two people. If the couples keep seperate then a) divorce means less trouble financially and b) when they stick together and one person screws up a credit report they can still use the other.
Don’t think that this is not trusting your partner from the beginning it is good sense. It is like buying insurance. You don’t get auto insurance because you want to have a car accident. Check this credit repair ebook for more secrets.
